The Catholic Diocese of Dallas joins those throughout the country praying for the victims and all of those affected by the violent murder of Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney and eight members of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. We especially pray for healing and reconciliation in their congregation and in our society.
Our Catholic community stands with all who fight for an end to racism and violence in our communities and in our nation. We must confront racism and violence with a commitment to the sanctity of life and a vision of hope in the love of Christ.
Bishop Guglielmone of the Diocese of Charleston is asking Catholics to pray a special Novena for the victims of the Emanuel AME Church shooting. Here is a suggested prayer that you are encouraged to say for the next nine days.
Novena Prayer for the Victims of the Deadly Emanuel AME Church
Lord, we pray for those who have been devastated by recent tragedies. We remember those who have lost their lives so suddenly. We hold in our hearts the families forever changed by grief and loss. Bring them consolation and comfort. Surround them with our prayers for strength. Bless those who have survived and heal their memories of trauma and devastation. May they have the courage to face the days ahead. Help us to respond with generosity in prayer, in assistance, and in comfort to the best of our abilities. Keep our hearts focused on the needs of all the community. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
