Sunday, October 21, 2012 is World Missions Sunday. This National Collection, recommended by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, is celebrated in all the local churches as the feast of catholicity and universal solidarity so Christians the world over will recognize their common responsibility with regard to the evangelization of the world. Mission dioceses – about 1,100 at this time – receive regular annual assistance from the funds collected. Additional requests are made by mission dioceses and the world’s national directors of the Propagation of the Faith vote on these requests, matching the funds available with the greatest needs. These funds are then distributed, in their entirety, to mission dioceses throughout the world.
Please support this worthy cause by generous participating in this special second collection. To learn more about World Mission Sunday, please read the Message of His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI for World Mission Day 2012.
