St. Rita Catholic School and Parish Closed Due to COVID-19 Concerns

At this time St. Rita Parish has voluntarily initiated the following precautions effective immediately.

St. Rita Catholic School received information early on the morning of March 11 that a member of the school and parish community has shown symptoms consistent with COVID-19. The parish and Diocese of Dallas are communicating with Dallas County Health and Human Services, and know that this person is currently being tested and receiving care.

At this time St. Rita Parish has voluntarily initiated the following precautions effective immediately:

  1. All daily Masses and Confessions are cancelled through Friday at St. Rita only. The regular Mass schedule will resume at the parish Saturday, March 14 with the Vigil Mass

  2. All meetings and gatherings on St. Rita campus are cancelled until further notice.

  3. Out of an abundance of caution, all classes at St. Rita Catholic School have been cancelled the rest of the week.  Parish and school administrators will assess the situation as things unfold to decide when to reopen sometime after Spring Break.

  4. The entire St. Rita School and church campus are undergoing a deep cleaning following Center for Disease Control guidelines.

Bishop Edward Burns commended the actions taken, “These measures are being taken at St. Rita out of a great abundance of caution and out of concern for all St. Rita students and parishioners, as well as the wider community.”  The Bishop went on to say, “We believe that dealing proactively with the issue of COVID-19 was the appropriate thing to do under these circumstances as it is our goal to attend to the physical and spiritual welfare of our parishioners.”

Bishop Burns also asks people to join him in prayer for those who are affected by this virus and recognize the need for patience and prudence during these days.
