Former Richardson City Manager to Join Diocesan Staff
New Chief Operating Officer Named for Diocese of Dallas
Well-known, former Richardson City Manager, Bill Keffler, will take a new career path when he joins the Diocese of Dallas as Chief Operating Officer. Keffler retired from his long-time career in municipal government on May 31, 2012, but will join the diocesan staff on September 4 to oversee all temporal administration of the diocese. Bishop Kevin J. Farrell announced the news on August 15.
Keffler, a graduate of Notre Dame University, also holds a Masters of Public Administration from Texas Tech University. He served the City of Richardson for 35 years as Assistant City Manager, Deputy City Manager and as City Manager for the last 17 years. During that time, Keffler received numerous local and statewide awards for his outstanding professional and volunteer work.
The Diocese of Dallas is made up of 1.2 million Catholics in nine counties. Bishop Kevin J. Farrell says he is confident the experience and talents Keffler brings to the new job will serve the diocese well at a critical time of growth and expansion. “We have more than 100 Catholic churches, schools and related entities in the Diocese of Dallas. I know Bill’s experience in municipal government and his involvement in the Church will prove invaluable in helping the diocese better manage our continued growth and resources. I am thrilled to have him join the diocesan staff.”
Keffler, his wife Chrissie, and their five children are members of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Richardson where he has served in numerous leadership roles at the parish and school. He says he looks forward to this new chapter in his life. "It is such a privilege to have this opportunity to serve Bishop Farrell and the Diocese of Dallas in this new capacity. My previous career with the City of Richardson was so fulfilling that I feel very fortunate to be entering a new phase of my professional life with an institution of which I have so much respect."
