Statement from Bishop Edward Burns regarding a federal judge's injunction blocking the decision to refuse refugees in Texas
I do not believe that we lack the resources in the state of Texas to help refugees who are facing death, violence and fleeing for their lives, I would like to believe that we have the heart and the compassion to help people because they are created in the image of God, not rejected simply because they were born in another country.
I do not believe that we lack the resources in the state of Texas to help refugees who are facing death, violence and fleeing for their lives, I would like to believe that we have the heart and the compassion to help people because they are created in the image of God, not rejected simply because they were born in another country. I truly believe that the refugee resettlement system saves lives. In light of this, I am very grateful for the preliminary injunction issued by a federal judge today that temporarily blocks the order allowing states to refuse the resettlement of refugees. I pray a final decision will be made that allows this great state to continue to welcome people in dire need of a safe place to live, work and raise their families.
