Joyful Catholics from throughout the Diocese of Dallas and as far away as Italy and Poland gathered to witness the ordination of the diocese’s five newest priests.
The five men received the Sacrament of Holy Orders during the 10 o’clock Saturday morning Mass on May 26, 2018, at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe at 2215 Ross Avenue in downtown Dallas. Bishop Edward J. Burns served as the main celebrant and was joined by the priests of the Diocese of Dallas and visiting priests from around the country in concelebrating the Mass of Ordination. Hundreds of family and friends attended this very special Mass that can be viewed at www.cathdal.org/2018priests.
The men ordained are Reverend Wade Bass and Reverend James Dorman, both of Dallas; Austin native Reverend Stephen Ingram; Reverend Radoslaw Michal Markiewicz, originally of Poland; and Reverend Giuseppe Spoto, a native of Italy.
The event marks the first time in 21 years that a class of five or more men has been ordained at one time. Bishop Burns says it is indicative of the growing interest in vocations to the priesthood. “I thank God that these good men heard and listened to the call from God to the priesthood. After no less than six years of seminary formation, they are now ready to devote their lives to serve the Church and her people as priests. I am grateful not only to these good men, but to their supportive families as well, and I am very appreciative of the work that has been done and the prayers offered in the Diocese of Dallas to inspire vocations to the priesthood.”
Bass grew up in Christ the King Catholic Church, Dorman in St. Thomas Aquinas and Ingram in All Saints, all Dallas parishes. Spoto’s home church is Chiesa Di Sant Agostino in Irsina, Italy. Markiewicz’ home parish is St. Mateusza in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
