Peter’s Pence Second Collection - June 28th
The Peter’s Pence Collection unites us with Pope Francis to be the face of Christ to our suffering brothers and sisters around the world.
Embarking on the third year of his pontificate, Pope Francis continues to call each of us to be a witness of charity. “To love God and neighbor is not something abstract,” he said, “but profoundly concrete: it means seeing in every person the face of the Lord to be served, to serve him concretely.”
The Peter’s Pence Collection, taking place in Diocese of Dallas parishes on Sunday June 28th, 2015, unites us with the Holy Father by providing him with the financial means to respond with emergency assistance to those who are suffering as a result of war, oppression, natural disaster, and disease.
This collection was started centuries ago to provide financial support for the Pope and has evolved to fund the Holy See’s charitable actions for those in need. The Peter’s Pence Collection has raised nearly $190 million to support our suffering brothers and sisters around the globe
Pope Francis reminds us that true power lies not in amassing possessions and resources for ourselves but in giving. “We must never forget that true power, at any level, is service, whose bright summit is upon the Cross . . . It means to enter into Jesus’ logic, who bends down to wash the feet of the Apostles,” he said.
The Diocese of Dallas joins Pope Francis in this weekend’s collection to be a witness of charity throughout the world.
