Students and families throughout the Diocese of Dallas are celebrating National Catholic Schools Week, January 26th – February 1st. The first Catholic school opened its doors in the Diocese of Dallas in 1874. Today, there are 38 schools and an enrollment of nearly 15,000 students in the local Catholic school system, led by Superintendent Sister Gloria Cain, SSND.
There are a variety of events at all campuses in the diocese to allow students to reflect and have fun while celebrating their Catholic school education. Many of these events involve an aspect of community service for the students and learning more about the needs of people and environment in their local area and around the world.
Two events planned for the week include:
Sunday, January 26th, 6:30 p.m. at American Airlines Center, Catholic Night at the Dallas Mavericks game. Students and their families will enjoy cheering on the Mavs as they take on the Detroit Pistons. Students will also get to participate in the high-five tunnel immediately prior to the game.
Monday, January 27th, 11:00 a.m. Holy Family Catholic School, 2323 Cheyenne St. Irving, TX 75062 Students will get a visit from former Holy Family student and now Harlem Globetrotter star, Joyce “Sweet J” Ekworomadu, and other members of the legendary basketball troupe. The Globetrotters will have some fun with kids but will also speak to the entire student body about the ABC's of Bullying.
