On January 19, 2013, we will mark a tragic milestone in our country – 40 years of legalized abortion on demand since the January 22, 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decisions Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. Bishop Farrell urges all Catholics and people of good will in the Diocese of Dallas to join in prayer, penance and public witness at the 2013 Diocesan Roe Memorial Events.
The theme of the 2013 Roe Memorial Events is “Exodus 20:13 Thou Shalt Not Kill”. As Bishop Farrell explains in his letter of invitation, Exodus 20:13 is a “most fitting reminder from Almighty God in the year 2013, the 40th year of the legalized killing of the unborn, that life is sacred and must be protected and that the killing must end.”
The schedule of Roe Memorial Events is as follows:
- 7:45 am Roe Memorial Rosary outside the Routh Street abortion center, 4321 N. Central Expy, Dallas (buses available from Cathedral beginning at 7:30 a.m.)
- 10:00 am Bilingual Roe Memorial Mass at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, 2215 Ross Ave at Pearl St, Dallas, celebrated by Bishop Kevin J. Farrell and diocesan clergy, with homilist Fr. Zach Webb and music led by Dave Moore. Video feed and overflow seating will be available in the Grand Salon; video feed also available under tent on Cathedral Plaza for additional overflow.
- 12:00 pm Dallas March for Life from Cathedral Plaza to Rally outside the Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse where Roe v. Wade was first filed in 1970
- 1:45 pm Pro-Life Ministry Fair at First Baptist Dallas, 1707 San Jacinto, Dallas, and Reception at Cathedral Grand Salon.
