THE GOSPEL OF MARK (Course # 613)

The Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, Dei Verbum, describes Holy Scripture “as the support and energy of the Church, the strength of faith for her sons, the food of the soul, the pure and everlasting source of spiritual life” (DV 21). The study of Holy Scripture is “the soul of theology” (DV10), and the study of the Gospels holds a special place for us in our personal devotions (DV18). In this six-week study of the Gospel of Mark, we will explore what Jesus Christ meant to his disciples, what He means to us, and indeed what He means to the world. Everyone is welcome and there are no prerequisites for the class. Bring your Bible, an open heart, and a hunger for the Word of God.

By the end of this class, participants will…

  • appreciate the importance of Holy Scripture to our lives as Catholics
  • understand the context and content of the Gospel of Mark.
  • have a fresh perspective on Jesus’s question “Who do you say that I am” (Mark 8:29).
  • want to continue forward with a deeper devotion to personal study of Holy Scripture.
