612. Introduction to Scripture. Participants in this course will obtain an overview of the Bible. It is a great place to start a more in depth Bible study program. This course will provide the participants with the basic concepts they need to begin the journey of navigating into the world of the scriptures. This course covers topics such as how the Bible came about, what were some of the cultural factors which influenced the events around the writing of the Old and New Testaments, and which Church Documents tell us about the Bible.
Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Understand the process of Bible composition and authorship
Understand the meaning of Scripture’s oral and written tradition
Describe the meaning of covenantal love
Identify the Bible’s literary forms
Identify the books of the Old and New Testaments
Identify the “Synoptic Gospels”
Explain the uniqueness of John’s Gospel
Understand how to read and how not to read the Bible
Be familiar with the Church Documents related to the study of Scriptures
