Church History - All Saints Parish (8/12, 19, 26 and 9/2)

Tuesday, August 12, 2014 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Church History [Course #501]

Church History goes beyond a series of facts that happened at a certain time in human history.  It is our own history.  Church History illustrates how a community, guided by the Holy Spirit, has evolved throughout the centuries. [R.2012] These events and actions are filled with joy and sorrow that remember an essential truth for us:  We are the Mystical Body of Christ in human history, in the struggle to remain faithful to the Gospel, and to see ourselves as the mustard seed that should grow and bear fruit.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate the major periods in Church History
  • Understand a developing faith; the life in the Early Church
  • Understand the development of Church hierarchy
  • Identify the presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church
  • Explain the major divisions in Church History
  • Describe the challenges of American Catholic Church
  • Explain the impact of the Second Vatican Council
  • Explain the contributions of Vatican II and post Vatican II Popes

This is an advanced-level 10 hour course in the area of theology.  See the chart of the formation plan for more information.
