Getting Started as a Catechist - St. Martin of Tours, Forney (8/5&6)

202. Getting Started as a Catechist introduces new catechists to some basics that will help them take their first steps as catechists. They will learn how to set up their classroom space, how to create an appropriate social climate for catechesis, appropriate ways to use creative activities, and the basics of session planning.


At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Create the physical environment for catechesis
  • Provide a social environment in which faith can be nurtured
  • Use creative activities in learning
  • Develop successful lesson plans
  • Develop good behavior management and discipline techniques
  • Help learners pray together


This is a beginner level course of 5 hours. Beginner courses are pre-requisites designed for catechists to complete before starting or soon after beginning their catechetical ministry. Click here for a chart of the Continuing Faith Formation plan.

Must attend both sessions to receive credit.

Anyone who is beginning as a catechist or who is an existing catechist without the proper methodological training and wishes to improve in their ministry.
