Job Description

Founded in 1986, The Highlands School (THS) is a private independent Catholic school in Irving, TX, accredited by TCCBED and AdvancEd offering students a Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade Catholic education in the Diocese of Dallas. THS seeks a full-time accountant in the business office who will be responsible for the day to day accounting including accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, journal entries, and account reconciliations. This position also assists with human resources, safe environment, and other administrative business office duties.

1. Accounts Payable
a. Code and enter invoices
b. Obtain invoice approvals
c. Prepare checks
d. Reconcile G/L accounts
e. Research issues
2. Credit Cards
a. Code and enter credit card charges
b. Prepare monthly detailed reconciliation
c. Ensure timely payments
3. Purchasing
a. Research pricing on purchase requests
b. Obtain approvals
c. Purchase all necessary supplies and fulfill requests
4. Accounts Receivable
a. Prepare billing
b. Apply customer payments
c. Send collection notifications
d. Reconcile G/L accounts
e. Research issues
5. Banking
a. Prepare deposits
b. Record deposits to G/L
c. Update banking activity daily
d. Reconcile G/L accounts
e. Research issues
6. General Ledger
a. Prepare journal entries
b. Reconcile G/L accounts
c. Research budget to actual variances
d. Provide year-end audit requests
7. Administrative
a. Maintain organized filing system
b. Assist with Human Resources and Safe Environment training
c. Assist with the front office

Job Requirements

Preferred applicants should have at least five years of experience in the duties described, a minimum of a high school diploma (an Associates or Bachelor’s degree is preferred preferably in Accounting or Business), excellent communication and time management skills, an attention for detail and organization, a professional and positive spirit interacting with others, a proficiency using Microsoft Office products, a proficiency using QuickBooks or other accounting software, and a spirit of service that helps our school perform effectively in a climate of gospel charity.
