Description Overview:

St. Gabriel is growing, and we want to create a position to help us lavish hospitality on families seeking to engage their child into the life of the Catholic faith, particularly starting with the Sacrament of Baptism. We believe that the journey of preparing a child for Baptism provides opportunities to engage the family and invite them more deeply in the call of following Jesus. The Baptism and Family Connections Coordinator reports to the Director of Children’s Ministry and collaborates with the pastoral team, volunteers, and other staff. This includes organizing and facilitating aspects of Baptism preparation: communication with families, coordination of parent formation sessions, coordination of Baptism Rite arrangements, record keeping, and inviting families further into missionary discipleship. It also includes supporting parents build a foundation with which to engage their child in the journey of the Catholic faith. The Baptism and Family Connections Coordinator shares a love for the Church, an understanding of Baptism as a Sacrament of Initiation, and embodies hospitality when inviting others to enter more deeply into their faith.

Parents of infants, toddlers, and elementary age children will…

• Be Formed in the teachings on Baptism and the gospel of salvation through Jesus
• Experience a seamless process of bringing their child to into the Catholic Church in the Sacrament of Baptism and bring the family into deeper engagement

Primary Work:
• Develop and implement the sacramental preparation process for Baptism
• Assist in developing and coordinating initiatives, programs, and other offerings that invite and support parents in connecting their child to the discipleship journey and engagement in the Catholic faith
• Work in collaboration with the Director of Children’s Ministry to evaluate, update and maintain consistent sacramental and formation curriculum
• Review, select, and obtain suitable curricula and materials for Baptismal preparation programs
• Organize and record sacramental record according to Canon Law and the Diocese Sacramental Policy handbook and guidelines
• Coordinate preparation formation session for parents (currently led by our Deacons)
• Work with the Pastor’s Assistant to schedule necessary clergy for either the Baptismal Rite and/or leading parent formation sessions
• Work with the office of Worship to coordinate sacramental celebration and ensure there is an accompanying presence at each ceremony (which may include serving as that day in person)
• Recruit and train volunteers as needed to accompany the family in their journey through Baptism, including having a follow-up with non-Catholic parents after formation sessions
• (As the position matures) Develop and facilitate special retreats, resources, and/or sessions to further support parents in their promise to fulfill their duty of raising their child in the faith
• Maintain ongoing training though Pastoral Ministry Certification at University of Dallas (remote) and Diocesan Training in Cannon Law and Record keeping
• Any other duties assigned by the Pastor and Director of Children’s Ministry
• Collaborate with the Parish Information Specialist to help maintain the integrity of information for participating families

Job Requirements

Key Knowledge and Skills:

• Active in the Roman Catholic faith and commitment to function in a manner consistent with the mission of the Roman Catholic Church
• Familiar with the Parish Resource provided by the Diocese of Dallas Office of Formation
• Appropriate leadership, organizational and facilitation skills and the ability to implement programs
• Able to coach, delegate, foster open communication, develop team dynamics and support the gifts of others in ministry
• Lived expression of Christian hospitality, welcome, and missionary zeal
• Excellent working knowledge in database software and Microsoft tools
• Can relate effectively and communicate clearly with others
