John Paul II High School (JPII), an increasingly multicultural, next-generation Catholic college preparatory high school, is serving families in the greater Collin County area. Does your background include some of these educational and certification achievements?
-Master’s Degree in Counseling or related field.
-Valid Texas School Counselor certification.
-Secondary level counseling/teaching experience preferred.
-Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification preferred.
-Being a member of the Catholic faith preferred but not required.

-Passion and strong ability for working with a diverse group of students (academically, racially, ethnically, and culturally).
-Understanding of and experience in testing administration (PSAT and Advanced Placement) and the college/university application process.
-Familiarity with Dual Credit, College Board, and Advanced Placement programs.
-Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills. Superior oral and written communication skills with attention to detail.
-Highly organized, strong work ethic, and reliable with demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with various deadlines and projects.

Reporting to the Principal, we will look to the Guidance Counselors to:
-Supports JPII leadership in developing effective strategies to maintain high levels of stakeholder (students, parents, teachers, staff) engagement in the academic process. Counsel students in the academic process using all resources available..
-Monitor individual student development and progress and ensure timely communication takes place between teachers, students, parents, and counselors.
-Lead the JPII campus Health and Wellness Program, with an emphasis on reducing stress and anxiety on campus through effective communication with assigned students, parents, and health professionals.
-Bring an inclusive, multicultural perspective and leadership in professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, with an emphasis on social and academic diversity, learning styles, and differentiation strategies.
-Collaborate with the JPII Learning Specialists, classroom teachers, and parents to develop and promote methods and techniques that support academic achievement for all students.
-Manage all testing (e.g. PSAT, AP, subject-specific placement tests) to maximize the reliability and validity of the scoring and recording of student progress.
-Collaborate with other guidance counselors to maintain the JPII Comprehensive Guidance Plan, adjusting for new developments as student needs evolve.
-Develop a close relationship with the Admissions office in assuring prospective students’ transcripts are reviewed and academic plans are shared with admissions in a timely manner.
-Strengthen and maintain a cooperative process for the integration of new students into the JPII family, while ensuring an understanding of our community’s principles, values, and cultural attributes.
-Develops collaborative methodologies and best practices in partnership with Director of College Placement to enhance acceptance to students’ first choice college/university.
-Engage with campus staff, athletics, fine arts, clubs, and parent groups to be knowledgeable of all the activities and clubs offered to students while attending JPII. Assist in monitoring student prevention and retention issues.
-Develop successful student programs for academically struggling students.
-Implement methods to aid in the integration of diverse student populations.
-Develop and coordinate presentations for school events (e.g. Dual Credit/AP, New Parent meetings, -University/College information, Health and Wellness initiatives, Information Nights, Internships, etc.)
-Research, write, edit, design, and manage print/electronic communications as required.
-Assume responsibility for school programs/initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or President.
-Maintain updated training in working with Substance Abuse Prevention, Mental Health Issues, and Children’s Telebehavioral Health Services.
-Maintain a current program of professional growth by keeping abreast of research studies, participating in workshops, seminars, professional organizations, and/or advanced coursework at colleges or universities.
-Demonstrate personal grooming, good health practices and conduct expected of professional personnel, complying with school and diocesan regulations.
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policies of the Diocese of Dallas and John Paul II High School.
