Job Description

Description Overview:
With the retirement of our Children’s Ministry Director, we are seeking an individual to nurture children on their journey of following Jesus, primarily through the evangelization, formation, and empowerment of parents. The Children’s Ministry Director serves as a leader that guides a vision and collaborates with families, staff, volunteers, and clergy. The role oversees ministry programs for children ages birth through 5th grade and provides direction and supervision for all Children’s Ministry staff.

Intended Outcomes from This Role:
• Parents will be motivated to explore and grow in their own relationship with Jesus and understanding of faith, have a hunger for their children to live a meaningful Catholic faith-life, and be empowered with tools and structures to share faith with their children.
• Children and their parents will be invited to the discipleship journey, encounter Jesus, belong to and engage in Christian community, and will be formed in the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church.

Primary Work:
• In consultation and collaboration with others, continue to refine a vision for the children’s ministry aligned with the parish’s overall vision
• Serve as a witness of Jesus and consistently invite families to enter more deeply into the joyful journey of following Jesus
• Provide leadership through the accompaniment and empowerment of parents, as they share faith with their children, and by recruiting, training, and deploying key ministry volunteers
• Manage and support all Children’s Ministry staff who work with families and children from birth through 5th grade. The Children’s Ministry team currently coordinates Whole Family Formation (Catechesis for Grades K-5), Sacramental Preparation (Birth-Grade 5), Reach Kids Nights (Grades 3-5), VBS, and Early Childhood Programs (6mo- 7 years) which includes Nursery, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Toddler Faith Formation, and weekday childcare
• Review all curriculums used by the Children’s Ministry and ensure they are consistent with Church teaching and age-appropriate pedagogy
• Guide Children’s Ministry communications with families and the parish through vibrant, attractive, and relevant messaging regarding our mission and programming
• Oversee and ensure Children’s Ministry programs offer a Safe Environment (Diocese of Dallas child protection and security)
• Ensure and oversee program registration, attendance, sacramental record-keeping, accountability, and other administrative tasks
• Develop an annual budget and operate within the constraints of that budget
• Attend staff meetings, ministry team meetings, prayer days, and educational days
• Develop, plan, and oversee other special events related to children and families
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Key Knowledge and Skills:
• Proven leadership experience seen by a record of raising up and empowering others
• Ability to relate to a variety of people, regardless of age, ethnicity, or socio-economic background; most especially relatable to elementary-age children and parents
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to dynamically inspire and lead others
• Ability to recognize others’ spiritual longings, gifts, and life challenges and guide them towards further maturity as a disciple of Jesus
• A calling to pastoral ministry and parish renewal with an understanding of the church’s theology of evangelization and catechesis
• Capability in identifying the root cause of complex problems and creating solutions
• Project or program management skills; able to prioritize complex and related tasks, while being relational with others
• A commitment to ongoing growth as a leader
• Exercise discernment and maturity, reflecting a Godly spirit; relate well with others
• Embrace a strong work ethic, working well with minimal direction
• Proficiency in Microsoft software products; utilize technology for effective communication and organizational productivity
• Proficiency in Spanish is ideal

Required Education and Experience:
• Demonstrated experience and zeal for sharing Jesus and inviting other people to faith/church
• Pastoral and working understanding of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
• A growing Christian faith and character, active as a Roman Catholic, and committed to function in a manner consistent with the mission of the Church
• Bachelor’s degree; Master’s Degree is a plus
