General Summary of the Position
In close collaboration with the Pastor and the Principal, the Communications Director at Mary Immaculate Catholic Parish and School plays a pivotal role in shaping and disseminating the narrative, mission, and values of our school and parish community. This role is responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive communication strategy that engages, informs, and inspires various stakeholders, including parents, parishioners, students, volunteers, and the broader community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
1. Strategic Communications:
Develop and implement a strategic communication plan that aligns with the mission and objectives of Mary Immaculate Catholic School and Parish.
Identify key messages and target audiences to ensure effective communication.
2. Print, Digital and Social Media Management:
Maintain and update the school and parish websites, social media accounts, and various weekly communications such as Flocknotes and WaaG.
Assist in creating compelling content, including articles, posts, videos, and graphics, to showcase school and parish achievements and events.
Monitor social media trends and track the online presence of the school and parish.
Create and/or supervise print materials to communicate and promote school and parish events, such as the Bulletin, Open House, and North Texas Giving Day.
3. Public Relations and Media Relations:
Cultivate positive relationships with Catholic media outlets (i.e., Catholic radio and newspaper) and relevant organizations.
Able to draft press releases, media pitches, and manage media inquiries.
Coordinate media coverage for significant school and parish events.
4. Community Engagement:
Collaborate with school and parish leadership to engage parents, students, parishioners, and the community in various activities, initiatives, and events such as our yearly Eucharistic Procession.
Promote open houses, parish events, fundraisers, and educational programs.
5. Brand Management:
Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels for both the school and the parish.
Develop and enforce brand guidelines.
6. Crisis Communication:
Develop and maintain a crisis communication plan to address potential issues promptly and effectively.
Serve as the spokesperson for the school and parish during crisis situations.
7. Market Research and Analytics:
Conduct market research and analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in communication strategies.
Utilize analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts.
8. Budget Management:
Manage the communications budget efficiently.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field
Prior experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, preferably in an educational or religious setting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in digital and social media platforms.
Graphic design; experience with Adobe InDesign and Canva
In good standing with the teachings of the Church and traditions.
Knowledge of Catholic education and parish life preferred.
Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.
Crisis communication experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
Able to work with staff and volunteers in a collaborative and motivational style.
Honor and maintain confidentiality.
Maintains a positive, upbeat, self-starting, solutions-centered, can-do attitude.
Must be able to thrive with minimal supervision.
