Bishop Edward J. Burns celebrated his first Mass of Ordination in the Diocese of Dallas when he ordained three men to the priesthood on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10 o’clock in the morning at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, located at 2215 Ross Avenue in downtown Dallas - Rev. Michael Baynham, Rev. Martin Castañeda, and Rev. Javier Diaz Servin.

Bishop Burns was the main celebrant and was joined by the priests of the Diocese of Dallas and visiting priests from around the country in concelebrating the Mass of Ordination. After ordination Father Baynham will serve as Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richardson. Father Castañeda has been assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. Ann Catholic Church in Coppell and Father Diaz Servin will serve as Parochial Vicar at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano.

The event marks the first time Bishop Burns, who was installed as the eighth bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Dallas in February, will ordain priests in his new diocese. Following Saturday, the Dallas diocese will look forward to next year when five men are on track for ordination, the largest class in recent history, and an indication of the growing interest in vocations to the priesthood.
