Diocese of Dallas Bishop Kevin J. Farrell’s statement regarding the federal circuit court ruling that halted President Barack Obama’s executive order to suspended deportations of millions of youths who came to the United States illegally while they were children.

The federal court order is greatly disappointing.  This latest action once again sharply highlights the need for the reform of immigration laws that appear to value the much needed labor immigrants perform in this country while showing no concern or dignity for them as human beings.  I pray the ruling will be overturned for the sake of all of the families who merely want to work, live and bring up their families in the peace and safety this great country provides.

TCC Bishops Disappointed in Immigration Ruling

“The Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops today expressed disappointment in a federal circuit court ruling that halted President Barack Obama’s executive order to suspended deportations of millions of youths who came to the United States illegally while they were children.

While we pray that the court’s ruling will be overturned, it nonetheless comes at a time when the Catholic Church and other advocates have been strenuously pushing both the U.S. Congress and the White House to move forward on comprehensive immigration reform.  The federal court order only demonstrates the continued dysfunction of the U.S. immigration laws, which often seem to value the work of these immigrants but not their rights and dignity as human beings.

At most, the executive order would have been a temporary reprieve for those millions of undocumented children who have grown up in our communities, schools, and neighborhoods; they have known no other home.  For the sake of these families who want only the chance to live, work, and keep their families, we call upon political leaders to bring meaningful change to U.S. immigration policy.”
