Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD) from an IRA – If you are over age 70½, you can donate up to $100,000 tax-free from your traditional IRA. Note: The CARES Act has suspended the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for 2020. However, with COVID-19 related needs greater than ever, many donors are considering making a QCD prior to year-end.

The deadline for receipt of a 2020 distribution is December 31st. Because of the high volume of year-end gifts, contact your IRA administrator as soon as possible to allow enough time for them to issue your gift before December 31st. Distributions by check must be dated and have a postmark no later than December 31st and wire transfers must be received by December 31st. Please request that your administrator reference your name and address with the check or wire transfer. If you have any questions concerning a gift from your IRA, please contact John Hughes at or (214) 379-3177.

Checks – Date your check on or before December 31, 2020, and mail via the U.S. Postal Service with a postmark on or before December 31, 2020. Checks dated and postmarked by December 31st and received in 2021 will be counted as 2020 contributions.

Checks may be hand delivered to the reception desk at the Pastoral Center by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23rd.

If you are sending a check via a service such as FedEx or UPS, it must be received by the Diocese prior to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23rd.  Postmarks apply only to items sent through the U.S. Postal Service.
