St. Joseph Celebrations for the Year of St. Joseph in the Diocese of Dallas

To mark the 150th anniversary of St. Joseph’s designation as patron of the universal Church, Pope Francis proclaimed a yearlong celebration dedicated to the foster father of Jesus.

In his apostolic letter Patris Corde (“With a father’s heart”), the pope said we can turn to St. Joseph as an “accepting father” and “a support and a guide in times of trouble.”

In observance of the Feast of St. Joseph, Bishop Edward Burns will celebrate a special Men’s Mass on Thursday, March 18, the vigil of the Solemnity of St. Joseph, at 7:00 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Frisco.

In Patris Corde the Holy Father notes that St. Joseph chose to unconditionally accept Mary and to protect her “good name, her dignity and her life and that he “found happiness not in mere self-sacrifice but in self-gift.” Bishop Burns says “it is important for the men of the Diocese of Dallas to come together to celebrate and reflect on the example St. Joseph still provides for men today.”

Bishop Burns also announced that he will celebrate a bilingual Mass on the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker on Saturday, May 1st at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Oak Cliff.
