The Chief Financial Officer for the Catholic Diocese of Dallas, Michael T. Weis, has been appointed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to a 3 year term as Chairperson of its Accounting Practices Committee, after election by the committee.
Mr. Weis is a Certified Public Accountant and has been CFO of the Diocese of Dallas for 17 years and a member of the USCCB Accounting Practices Committee since 2006. The committee is comprised of eleven CPA’s who are CFO’s of Catholic dioceses in the United States, 2 members each from the conferences of religious women and religious men (LCWR and CMSM) and 5 advisors from significant national public accounting firms. The committee’s purpose is to advise the USCCB in matters involving fiscal affairs, accounting principles and financial reporting practices, and provide guidance on diocesan financial issues. The committee does this by representing the organization before professional standard setting groups dealing with accounting principles and reporting practices, and by working with offices and committees of the USCCB, the Diocesan Fiscal Managers Conference and other professional societies of the Church
The Accounting Practices Committee was first formed by the USCCB in the 1970’s. Its publication, Diocesan Financial Issues, is revised annually and available at:
