December 13, 2014 – The Catholic Diocese of Dallas made the first major distribution from its $125 million Our Faith…Our Future Capital Campaign with a $2.1 million gift to Catholic Charities of Dallas. The gift was announced Saturday, December 13, 2014, at an annual holiday celebration held at Santa Clara Regional Community Center in Dallas. Bishop Kevin J. Farrell made a formal check presentation to the Catholic Charities President and CEO Arne Nelson to fund programs and services at the Santa Clara Regional Community Center.
Following the check presentation, Bishop Farrell donned a Santa cap and joined more than 50 volunteers, including the Lady Friars Basketball team from Bishop Lynch High School, in handing out 2,700 Christmas gifts of toys, clothing and small appliances to 721 local families and more than 200 elderly people in need. Throughout the day, hundreds of families picked up gift bundles specifically for their families donated by Catholic schools, churches and other donors in the Diocese of Dallas.
“This is a blessed day of giving and celebration,” said Bishop Farrell. “Santa Clara is a vital resource for this community and a shining star in Catholic Charities’ outreach to and support of our region’s most vulnerable people.”
