Adult Faith formation Innovation Lab

Rethink and Reboot adult faith formation in your parish!

So you are having a summer Bible Study... Why are you offering a Bible Study on Tuesday mornings?  What is the purpose of the Bible Study? Does the Bible Study offer participants an encounter with Jesus, an experience of Christian community, a deeper connection to God's Word in daily life? Innovation in adult formation begins when we "rethink" what and why we are offering particular formation experiences.  We dig deep into the purpose and then we spend the time necessary to understand who we want to gather and how we will gather people. A Bible Study that is for everyone is a Bible Study that is for no one.
The Adult Faith Formation Innovation Lab can offer a kind of "reboot" to adult faith in your parish.  This adult faith initiative will guide parishes in developing a plan that can engage adults around their interests, concerns, questions, and spiritual and faith journeys. Participants will learn to design new programming/experiences for young adults, midlife adults, mature adults, and/or older adults; and to utilize digital media and methods to facilitate faith growth.
What does innovation look like and how does innovation connect with adult faith formation? Watch the video clip from the movie Apollo 13 and then reflect on the questions below:

Reflection Questions:

Of the adults in your parish, which generation would be most open to new ways of offering adult formation (adults in their twenties and thirties,/forties and fifties/sixties and seventies/ eighty plus)?
What are the obstacles your parish faces in your mission to evangelize and catechize this particular season of adulthood?
What are the resources you presently have available to innovate/rethink faith formation for this generation of adults in your parish? We can only create the future being creative, persistent, resilient with the parts and pieces of what we have - example Apollo 13.
How can innovation help you to better accompany adults as they deepen their faith?
Who are 4-7 people in your parish that have some energy for growing adult faith in your parish?  Who will you invite to the workshop on Saturday August 25th at St. Gabriel in McKinney?

Innovation Labs are interactive, collaborative learning and design experiences for parish leadership teams to create new projects in faith formation
  • The goal of each Lab is to design and implement new initiatives that have the potential of being transformative for a parish faith community.
  • Each Innovation Lab brings together parish teams from across the Diocese to design new strategies, programs, and activities to implement in their parish.
  • Over a six month period, the parish leadership teams will meet for 2 day long workshops and 2 live webinars.  The bulk of the work will take place back in the parish.
  • Click on the picture above to download a PowerPoint presentation.  The PowerPoint has an audio track in which John Roberto walks you through the Innovation Lab process.  Consider using this with your parish team as an introduction to the Innovation Lab.
