Innovative Ministry. Parishes in Waterloo Rent Downtown Storefront Building for Evangelization
White Paper by Ellen Voegle
Pope Francis says, "We cannot keep ourselves shut up in parishes, in our communities, when so many people are waiting for the Gospel. It is not enough simply to open the door in welcome, but we must go our through that door to seek and meet the people!"  In response, four parishes in Waterloo, Iowa, rented a building in downtown as a center for evangelization to strengthen parishioners in intentional discipleship, attract inactive parishioners, and reach out to all.  They strive to build trust in a non-threatening and comfortable environment to meet each person where he is at in the process of conversion.  Read about this innovative ministry practice.  What can we do in Dallas to increase our evangelization efforts?
GEMS- International Adult Faith Formation Best Practices Study
A Best Practice: An Integrated and Continually-Growing Process

When we plan for adult faith formation, there are many guiding principles. This issue of GEMS will explore how one cluster of parishes focused on these four principles of successful adult faith formation:  integrates all of Christian life; is guided by an adult faith formation committee; incorporates the many cultures; and processes and offerings continue to grow and expand, building on the previous learnings and experiences of the parishioners.

Certificate in Pastoral Ministry
Certificate in Pastoral Ministry

The Diocese of Dallas and the University of Dallas introduce the Certificate in Pastoral Ministry beginning late August 2016.  This certificate program will be another pathway for ministers to receive certification as a catechist of adults or children, or as a parish catechetical leader.  The other pathways outlined in the Continuing Catechetical Formation guidelines are still valid.  The new certificate program is laid out in a manner that includes some core courses applicable to every minister and offers courses for an endorsement in a particular field of ministry.  The course of study may be taken whole and entire or a minister may choose to only take a couple of the five week courses within the certificate program.  Participants will be able to mix and match courses in the Certificate for Pastoral Ministry and in the Continuing Catechetical Formation program.  Courses are offered in four locations across the Diocese of Dallas:  at the University of Dallas, John Paul II High School (Plano), All Saints, and the Catholic Conference and Formation Center.

More information and registration is available now at

Three Courses this Fall.   Each course: has five(5) 2-hr. sessions and is offered at the four locations.

Message from Esther Garcia and her new Contact Information.  Resources for Ministry with Diabilities
Many of you will remember Esther, parish catechetical leader at Sacred Heart of Rowlett, who was active in the Adult Faith Formation committee and participated in the AFF events.  She now works at the National Catholic Partnership on Disability (NCPD).  She sent us a goodbye note as well as resources like the NCPD newsletter sign up link, Facebook link, and more.  We thank her for her ministry in the Diocese of Dallas, and cheer her on in her new role.
