Department of Catechetical Services
The mission of the Diocese of Dallas, Department of Catechetical Services is to promote the evangelizing mission of the Church: to form disciples of Jesus Christ, by assisting the Bishop, as head of the community and teacher of doctrine, to direct and moderate all the Catechetical activities of the diocese. (NDC # 59 C)
The office assists parishes in fulfilling the Six Tasks of Catechesis:
- Knowledge of the Faith
- Liturgical Education
- Moral Formation
- Teaching to Pray
- Education for Community Life
- Missionary Initiation (NDC #20)
The office provides:
- Support and guidance to parish-based catechetical programs for children and youth and lifelong adult formation
- Written resources and formation in English and Spanish for Parish Catechetical Leaders (PCLs), catechists and other parish ministers, to meet the needs of the Church of today.
- Various topical workshops such as Quinceañera Facilitator Training, New Leadership Orientation and quarterly meetings with Parish Catechetical Leaders
- A yearly Ministry Conference in collaboration with the School of Ministry at the University of Dallas
- A Media Resource Center
- Pastoral Juvenil Hispana, staffed by the Missionary Catechists of the Poor
- Collaboration with other Diocesan departments, Networks, The School of Ministry at the University of Dallas and local parishes
- Assessment of Parish Catechetical needs and development of appropriate ways (programs, processes, etc.) to respond to those needs
